Ginsburg wasn’t the first female justice on the Supreme Court, but she may be the most badass. She was the first woman on the Harvard Law Review, the first woman to be granted tenure at Columbia law school, and she spearheaded the ACLU’s fight for gender equality. She’s also famous for her strong dissent in the 2000 Bush vs. Gore Supreme Court case, where she discarded the traditional “I respectfully dissent” for the much bolder “I dissent” (burn!). After beating pancreatic cancer in 2009, Ginsburg went on to be the only Supreme Court Justice to become a verifiable meme, with T-shirts, blogs, and endless GIFs dedicated to her liberal politics and stylish ruffs.
